Introduction

The Saadian Tombs were one of the most crowded sights I went to in Morocco. I had tried to get there early in the morning, but I’d gotten a little bit lost in the medina and so I ended up getting there late. It was very beautiful, but difficult to thoroughly enjoy with so many other people around. I’d recommend going at opening time, or when tour groups are all stopping for lunch and there won’t be as many people. You won’t feel as rushed, and it’s better for picture taking (although it will be hot around mid-day).

About

The Saadian Tombs are one of the most popular (and crowded) sights in the city. They were built in the late 1500s as a burial site for over 60 members of the Saadi Dynasty, but they were only rediscovered in 1917. Today they are a major tourist sight in Marrakesh.
