Introduction

I’d heard rave reviews about the Jardin Majorelle from the other New Yorkers I’d met on my overnight camping trip in the Sahara, but I wasn’t overly impressed. They were nice, but not as great as I was expecting. Although that could have partly been due to the fact that I was still recovering from food poisoning while I was there and wasn’t feeling very well.

About

The gardens were designed by the painter Jacques Majorelle who lived there in the 1920s and 1930s. It’s been open to the public since 1947. Majorelle sold it to fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent in the 80s, and Laurent gave it to the city of Marrakesh as a gift. Laurent’s ashes were scattered here after his death in 2008.
